Recognizing Wolves In Sheep's Clothing

 Leader: Pastor Bill

One of the greatest responsibilities of a pastor is to protect the people in his church from what the Bible refers to as "wolves in sheep's clothing".  Every pastor, at some point in their ministry will be confronted with an attack of the enemy through a person that names the name of Christ , but has an entirely different agenda.

As a pastor, you are a shepherd to the flock.  One of your many responsibilities is to see that the people that would try to disrupt or destroy the body are not allowed to succeed .  Every day we walk with a spiritual responsibility to give our lives for the people God has entrusted to our care. There will be times when people will be poised to do damage to the church unless we act decisively.  This will sometimes put us in the center of a firestorm.  It would be easier to just set back and be uninvolved and safe, but Jesus says in John 10:11-13, that we are not to act as hired hands who run when the wolf comes to scatter the sheep.  We are to protect them even if it means personal harm to ourselves.

Let's define what we mean when we use the word wolf. A wolf is a person who comes into the church seeking to gain personal advantage.  They are not there to serve or seek God ; they are there to consume.  Money or power are the two main motivations in the life of a wolf.  The following are types identify people who are in my estimation rightly called wolves.
